I have never understood unwavering allegiance to a political party. Republicans have amassed a base by promising all manner of change it cannot deliver. Abortion is still legal. Alleged attacks on religion are red herrings, but they work to attract the delusional, who somehow are still completely free to worship their god(s). Gun lovers still have their guns. Bigots are still bigots.
Enter Donald Trump, a sociopath and ignoramus of towering proportion. He brings vigor to knuckle-draggers who have avoided the ballot box as they have avoided logic and reality. They love The Donald, and they have turned on "the establishment", the same establishment youngsters railed against a half-century ago. They are shattering the Republican Party with their warfare.
Along comes a walking honey bucket in the person of Rafael "Ted" Cruz, a Senator who has stooped to depths that make a gutter snipe look saintly. A Senator hated utterly by his fellow party members, and yet is now their favored son.
In the background, lurks one John Kasich, the Governor of Ohio, a true establishment Republican, who appears to be a moderate only because Trump and Cruz are so completely off-the-charts insane. Kasich is a totalitarian whose success is based on the fact that it was almost impossible for Ohio to go any lower, a "Pro-lifer" who sees women as chattel.
Democrats have never had a better chance to bring to a complete halt the damage inflicted by the tiny ruling class that has pillaged the American economy and destroyed hard-won civil rights for the last 40 years; the parasites who have crushed the middle class and constantly attacked the Constitution.
Both Democratic candidates, Secretary Clinton and Senator Sanders stand on principles that expose Republican efforts to turn our form of government into a pure oligarchy. Senator Sanders has clearly identified the overarching issue in our electoral process; money, and more specifically, dark money. He preaches sweeping reforms as sweet as a meadowlark's song.
Secretary Clinton is also well aware of the corrosive influence of money, but knows Senator Sanders cannot bring his solutions to fruition. Her strength is an understanding of the incremental approach that angers Sanders supporters. She is unfortunately absolutely correct. The Sanders proposals will not work; cannot work. Dark money infects Democrats too.
President Obama is the only candidate, Democrat or Republican for whom I have voted who won the Presidency. I'm batting two for eleven. I don't regret those votes. I knew then that President Obama was taking corporate money. Call it pragmatism, call it opportunism, it is reality. Accepting that money does not mean Senator Clinton is not qualified. It means she knows she has no chance to make ANY change, if she does not win. She can win. Sanders cannot.
Senator Sanders has lost me. How can he support Secretary Clinton's bid for the Presidency when she is the party nominee, as she will be? How will he be able to tell his supporters she has suddenly become qualified? How will he be able to tell his devotees to vote for someone he says is, "...not qualified."? He can't.
Know this Senator Sanders, you've Berned me up. You have seriously damaged an opportunity to end Republican tyranny. Damn you!
